The growth form of this tree and the texture of the bark suggest oak, but no, it’s an alder. It is by a path along the River Tyne (not the Newcastle Tyne – a smaller Tyne in East Lothian) at the edge of the town of Haddington.
Details: Coloured pencil; 2010; 30 cm x 21 cm. Unframed: original £150; print £30.
