At 787 metres in height Arkle is a big hill, but its shape plays a big part in conveying that sense of bulk. It is made of Cambrian quartzite. In this view it is seen from the low Lewisian gneiss ground by Loch Inchard (a sea loch), about 10 kilometres to the north-west.
