These steep rock faces in this wooded ravine are home to an amazingly rich flora of mosses and liverworts, some of which are rare: for example the liverwort Acrobolbus wilsonii which grows on the rock face in the middle of the photo. These western (oceanic) mosses and liverworts appear to need humid, mild conditions: relative freedom from drought and from excesses of high or low temperature. This is a temperate rainforest environment.
