Drawn from a photo taken by Philippe Falbet in a forest in the Pyrenees. One of four pictures I drew as illustrations for an article about Pyrenean forests in the French botanical magazine La Garance Voyageuse. It’s a big lichen that is found mostly on trees and is sensitive to air pollution, so wherever it grows it suggests that the air quality there is good. It grows here in Britain and Ireland – mainly in W Scotland and W Ireland.
