En route from Devon to Scotland I happened to come through Herefordshire (yes I know, it’s not a direct route) where I stopped and looked at some old oaks including this one. I think I might have been trespassing by walking over some fields, but living in Scotland you forget that access laws are different in England and Wales. I didn’t meet anyone there. I think if I had been seen and approached I would have told them how wonderful their trees were. And I’d have been friendly to their dog (they’ve always got dogs). I have seen the angry side of landowners a few times, and then been heartened at how nice they can be once you get talking with them in a non-confrontational way.
