This was the first of a series of pictures I did for an artist in residence project at Rahoy Hills Scottish Wildlife Trust nature reserve in Morvern in the west Highlands of Scotland in 2017. I didn’t spend as much of the project time on site as I planned, because I had a hernia that restricted my mobility, so I called it an “artist in absence” project! It went well and I was able to raise £900 for the trust’s reserve funds. I worked from photos I’d taken during my brief project visit and over the years before, as it’s a place I’ve been involved with for a long time. Here in this picture we see some of the reserve’s oak woodland with a golden-coloured ground layer of mosses and purple moor-grass.
