Imagine slowly making your way up a rocky stream, looking down and close at the mosses and liverworts growing on the rocks in and at the edge of the water – one rock, another rock, and so on – and then you happen to look up and suddenly there’s a great big dark tree trunk right ahead of you! Its leaning slightly toward you and there are bits of bark and moss hanging down from its “belly”. That’s what happened along the Allt na Cloiche on the occasion of my bryophyte (moss/liverwort) survey there – and I’m still here to tell the tale.
