
These two oaks are in rather open woodland near the estuary of the River Tyne in East Lothian. Interesting that some oak trunks have those bulging parts on the lower trunk. There’s some epicormic growth here too (thin twigs growing straight out from the trunk), and many dead branches – in total a good variety of microhabitats that are probably well used by birds and insects.
