This oak must have been coppiced a long time ago and then left to grow, as the stems have grown quite thick and twisted into interesting shapes. The Thirlmere woods are visually attractive places, but this can really be said of all woods in the Lake District. Is there such a thing as a wood that is not visually attractive in any way?
