“Travelling” around eastern Tennessee on Google Street View I found myself in this ravine, so I panned around and took this photo (a screenshot). It’s very mossy here – a bit like what we see along rocky streamsides in the western parts of Britain and Ireland. Deep in the southern Appalachian gorges the climate actually has distinct similarities to that of parts of western Britain and Ireland (humid and mild), and the flora has some shared species too. Home from home!
