This scene could easily be in temperate rainforest in the west Highlands, but it’s in the Lammermuir Hills in SE Scotland. Even some areas closer to the east coast than to the west coast have a climate or microclimate that is humid, equable and oceanic by total European standards, though obviously less so than in the west and typically with fewer western oceanic species of mosses, liverworts and other plants. My approach with this drawing was to err on the bright and bold side.
